Green Isle Trail (Phase I) final report submitted
Consultants appointed by Our Community Footpaths Group have completed a report with a detailed design for a path linking the east end of Fort Road to Portkil.
It will provide a safe walking and cycling route for the houses in Portkil to access the health centre, post office, primary school, shops, pub and the pier at Kilcreggan. The existing path is very muddy.
This is Phase I of a proposed core path linking Kilcreggan with Rosneath via the Green Isle, with a potential circular route returning to Kilcreggan via the Forestry track. The provision of this path will enhance safety and provide for greater community wellbeing.
The report was commissioned at the end of 2025 on the advice of Walking Scotland who wanted the ground properly surveyed and professional plans drawn up before constructing anything. Funding was made available by Walking Scotland and Transport Scotland for this study. Following the completion of the report, Our Community will be seeking funding to deliver the proposal.

This report, produced by the landscape architect Mike Hyatt, includes details of the necessary work to support the eroded section of core path and to produce a good quality path for walking and cycling between Portkil and Kilcreggan. We would like to thank the landowner Matthew Calderwood for their cooperation and their kind agreement to these proposals being progressed.
