Footpaths Group begins work to install signage marking
Our Community Footpaths Group have installed some signage marking on the core paths leading form the east end of Fort Road to Portkil, and round the coast to the Green Isle (part of the proposed Green Isle Trail). A fingerpost and 3 way-markers were installed. Some of the volunteers are shown in the photo with our first fingerpost.

The paths are currently muddy and in need of improvement to encourage wider use. We have recently submitted a report with a detailed design for the path to Portkil. This report, produced by the landscape architect Mike Hyatt, includes details of the necessary work to support the eroded section of core path and to produce a good quality path for walking and cycling between Portkil and Kilcreggan. The work, and some of the signage, was funded by Walking Scotland’s Strathclyde Transport Community Path Fund and Transport Scotland. Additional funding for signage was allocated from National Lottery Awards For All. Thanks also to the farmer Matthew Calderwood for helping with the project.
Our next task is to obtain funding to implement the path construction.
