Craigrownie Play Park

In 2014, 4 Mums who lived in Kilcreggan got together to discuss the possibility of building a playpark at Craigrownie Park. The park at the time consisted of 2 very poor looking swings and a slide that had been cordoned off as it was considered dangerous. On that first day, imaginations soared and the Craigrownie Park Group was formed. With a healthy mix of determination, optimism and ignorance the long, slow process of returning Craigrownie Park back into a focal point of the community for everyone to enjoy., began.

With support from Argyll and Bute Council and under the guidance of the RPWCDT (now Our Community) the hard work began with consultations, funding applications and lots of fundraising events.

Each event had to be fun and involve the whole community - a wigs and wellies sponsored walk, car boot sales, easter egg hunts, an auction night, a curry night, even a colour run event in Helensburgh. Enthusiasm grew and so many people were very excited when they realised that this dream of a playpark was going to become a reality.

On Saturday 2nd July 2016, after a lot of hard work and community involvement, the playpark had been installed and was ready to be played on. Despite the weather not being favourable, a gala opening was held with a huge turnout of children and adults eager to get into the playpark. The ribbon was cut and the children ran, eager to get onto the play equipment. After enjoying the playpark, team games were held, tea and cake was eaten, crafts were made, cake cut and a fine time was had by all – albeit a wee bit drookit!

The playpark continues to be used daily (when it’s not raining) and is amazing to see so many young folk enjoying themselves. Fast forward to 2026 and this year marks the 10th anniversary of the playpark being opened. A big celebration is being planned!
