Kilcreggan Fort Road to Portkil/ Millbrae Pathway

Our Community Footpaths Group has been awarded a grant of £10,000 from the Walking Scotland’s Strathclyde Transport Community Path Fund 2025/2026 (https://www.coveandkilcreggancommunity.com/news/our-community-footpaths-group-says-of-funding-a-step-in-the-right-direction). The aim of the award is to produce a detailed design of a good quality accessible footpath following the existing Core Path, which is muddy and uneven, linking Kilcreggan with Portkil and Millbrae.

A landscape architect has been appointed and has undertaken an initial site visit (mid-Nov 2025). A key element of the path design will be support for the eroded path as it leaves Fort Road round the coast past the concrete pill box and into the field. Ahead of the site visit, a work party of 8 volunteers cleared and burnt the knotweed and brambles on the cliff edge so that the extent of the erosion is clear. The following pictures show the overgrown cliff edge and the volunteer group.
